List of the courses offered by the department:
The Department offers the following courses:
 

1.  B.Pharm.
The duration of the course leading to degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy is four years and a university examination is held at the end of each year. It is full time course and the admission to first year B.Pharm. is made on the. basis of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Panjab University usually in May.

Fifty five seats are available out of which 15 seats are reserved for Foreign NRI/NRI sponsored candidates. One seat each is also reserved for the nominee of Himachal Pradesh and the Government of India from amongst the foreign students and the students from the states and union territories lacking facilities in this field and repatriates from Burma, Sri Lanka etc.
Annual system of the examination is followed.During the session one house examination is held which is compulsory.

2.  M.Pharm.
The duration of the course is two years.

i)  CATEGORY A: OPEN CATEGORY (NUMBER OF SEATS-20)

Sub-category (a): 80% for Panjab University Graduates i.e. 16 seats
Sub-category (b): 20%  for Graduates of Universities other than Panjab
                            University i.e.4 seats

               The minimum qualification required for admission to M.Pharm. two years course is B.Pharm. with valid GATE score. As per resolution of the Syndicate 80% of the total number of seats are reserved for the graduates of Panjab University. This will also include the seats reserved for other categories as per general guidelines of the University. The proportional reservation criteria will be applied to the remaining 20% seats also. Further allocation of these reserved seats (80%) to the specializations viz. Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology will be considered on the basis of 80% reservation in each discipline at the time of admission i.e:

Pharmaceutics (6); Pharmaceutical Chemistry(6); Pharmacognosy (2); Pharmacology(2)

The remaining  4 seats from 20% sub-category would be distributed as one each candidate in each discipline.

For these 20 seats every student is eligible for a Scholarship as per U.G.C. terms and conditions for a period of two years..

Further, in the Sub-category of 80% reserved seats (16) for Graduates of Panjab University, if any seat(s) reserved for SC, ST, BC, Sports and Defence etc. remains unfilled that/those will be transferred to the Open Block of the P.U. Graduates, so that the decision taken by the Panjab University reserving 80% of the seats to P.U. Graduates is honourably and strictly complied with.

In case under the Sub-category (a) of P.U. Graduates any seat(s) remains unfilled that/those will be transferred to the Sub-category(b) of Graduates from Universities other than Panjab University. The reservation criteria under this Sub-category (b) i.e. for 20% will be applied to pooled number of seats.

In case in the Sub-category(b), of pooled/otherwise, any seat(s) reserved for SC, ST etc. remains unfilled that/those will be transferred to the Open Block of Sub-categtory(b) i.e. 20% for Graduates from Universities other than Panjab University for the purpose of admission.

In case any seat(s) remains unfilled under Sub-category(b) of 20% that/those will be transferred to the Sub-category (a) of 80% and likewise the reservation criteria would be applied to the pooled number of seats.

As the admission merit list is based on the basis of GATE which is an All India Competitive Examination, no weightage will be given.

The allotment of specialization to the admitted candidates would be decided by the Board of Control on the day of admission on the basis of merit and option of the specialization offered by the candidate.

For preparation of merit list to:M.Pharm. two years  course under the Category-A, the following criteria will be followed:

              i)        Valid   GATE Score                                                     70%
             ii)       B.Pharm. marks aggregate of all the
                       University examinations held during \
                       B.Pharmacy course                                                       30%

CATEGORY-B:FOREIGN/NRI/NRI SPONSORED/ PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY  SPONSORED (NUMBER OF SEATS : 15)

The minimum qualification for the candidate(s) for seeking admission under this category is B.Pharm. from a University/Institute approved by the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) and is equivalent to the B.Pharm. Degree of Panjab University with valid GATE score.

For preparation of merit list to M.Pharm. two years course under Category-B, the following  criteria will be followed:

i) Valid GATE Score/Graduate Record Examination(General)(GRE)     : 70%

ii) B.Pharm. marks aggregate of all the University examinations held during B.Pharmacy course                                                           : 30%

iii)Preference will be given to the candidates with valid GATE/GRE(General)Score and B.Pharm. In case any seat(s) remain vacant after all such cases are considered and exhausted, these seats will be filled by admitting non-GATE/GRE(General) candidate(s) provided such candidate(s) has/have  scored 65% aggregate marks in B.Pharm. I, II, III & IV and have cleared all the B.Pharm. examinations in first attempt.

Admission under this clause would be made according to the merit  based  on aggregate marks obtained in B.Pharm. 4 years.

The admitted candidates would make the payment of dues as follows:

a)  US $3000 or equivalent Indian currency as sponsorship fee;
b)    Rs.50,000/- (per annum) as contingency;
c)  Registration fee as per University rules in US dollars or equivalent in Indian currency.
d)    All other dues as per University rules.

There is no provision of grant of any scholarship under this category. The qualifying institutions/universities should have the approval of the AICTE.

The allocation of these 15 seats under Foreign/NRI/NRI sponsored/Pharmaceutical Industry sponsored category to different specializations would be in the following ratio:
